Sinterklaas is coming to town
This 5th of December, Sinterklaas (Saint Nicholas) is coming to town! Although he might look like Santa Claus, he is a very Dutch character and loved by all. Legend tells us he came from Turkey and was kind to children. For his arrival in Amsterdam, Sinterklaas will sail into town with over a kilometre of boats in one great parade. 400.000 spectators will welcome Sinterklaas and his 600 Pieten as he hands out his many pepernoten (small spiced biscuits). The parade then continues on dry land, when Sinterklaas sets foot on his white horse to lead the way through the city center.
