Barcelona’s top events of February

If we had to pick one adjective to describe this coming February in Barcelona, ‘festive’ would be the most appropriate. And for all the good reasons, as the entire region is filled with magic and laughter thanks to the Carnival, but also with art and music, with performances by national and international stars of such great repute as Estrella Morente or Katy Perry. Keep reading, and don’t miss out on any of the events in Barcelona next month!

The Carnival is here! – Anything goes, so enjoy yourself

Captura de pantalla 2015-01-08 a las 15.59.36Between the 12th and the 19th of February, put on your best disguise and come to the “carnestoltes” – which is the Catalan name for the Carnival festivities, celebrated with much enthusiasm in the different neighbourhoods of the capital.

Throughout the week, enjoy the parades and shows full of light and colour, dancers and “comparsas” (groups of players in similar costumes), as well as the many food stands and market stalls decorated to please both old and young. But if what you are looking for that week are high emotions, you cannot miss the biggest carnival of all: celebrated in Sitges, it is the most talked-about party every year.

The town, situated to the south of Barcelona and nicknamed the gay capital of Europe, celebrates a crazy Carnival that attracts more than 300,000 people eager for a good party, amusement and transgression. The Carnival in Sitges is an unmissable show made up of 50 floats, 2500 participants, glitter, confetti, incredible makeup, a bed race and even a burial. A month of sell-outs in the music venues

Don’t be surprised by the ‘sold-out’ signs hanging in ticket offices of venues across Barcelona this February. This year the city welcomes renowned artists from both the domestic and international music scenes – with performers, genres and shows to please any audience and pocket.

This is a festival that knows how to adapt to the current music scene, and that is always looking to engage new audiences and help emerging artists to secure their big break. For those into pop music, the American star Katy Perry will be landing in Barcelona as part of her “Prismatic World Tour”. On the 16th of February, the Palau de San Jordi will reverberate with the rhythm of her catchy songs, including her latest single: Roar!

And for those who prefer something a little different and fans of the famous Las Nancys Rubias, don’t miss their show on the 21st of February at the Razzmataz Club. A mix of glam rock and electro, full of catchy electropop refrains, it promises to be an unmissable show in which the leader of the band, Mario Vaquerizo, will undoubtedly make you both blush and smile.
