Jolly at the markets
Feeling festive? Click your favourite tacky jumper and head off to discover the city’s finest Christmas markets!
Among them, Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland (running until Jan 4th) is the most widely celebrated both because of its size and the variety of attractions. Check out the Bavarian-style Christmas stalls, a bar made of ice (!), a Giant observation wheel and an ice rink: no matter the temperature, it will be a soul-warming experience.
Winterville (until Jan 1st) can be found at Victoria Park and: mulled wine in hand, take a look at its edgy Wall of Death for bikers, or head there at night and let the roller disco change your idea of dance floor completely…
For a foodie spin on the idea of Christmas Market, Southbank Centre’s Real Food Market (Dec 19-23) is a terrific display of sustainable and ethically produced food.
An unconventional Christmas
For even more unconventional ways of spending your Christmas in London, meddle with Shoreditch’s cool crowd at the Red Gallery’s Christmas Craft Market, or if that’s more hip than you can take, step back in time at Hackney’s Fleamas Market (Dec 6th,7th,20th). Vintage lovers should also try to find their dream gifts from the past at the North London Vintage Market (Dec 6th, 7th).
The King is back in town
As evergreen as the greenest Christmas tree can be, The King is back in town. Celebrate rock n roll’s very own messiah with Elvis at the O2, an exhibition starting December 12th. This is a once in a lifetime chance for his Nightswapping fans to admire over 300 of his most personal items, among which is the first Christmas present Priscilla got him, as well some his Aloha jumpsuit and the iconic ‘taking care of business’ ring.
Street Food for Everybody
Food lovers will be hard pushed to find a city that celebrates international cuisine more than London. A mouth-watering extravaganza of some of the most innovative and exotic kinds of street food, the Christmas-themed Urban Food Fest (every Saturday night until Dec 20th) is a present for all the swappers who always thought British love for food revolves eggs, bacon and cake. From South African bunnychow to Italian arancini and Chinese bian jing crepes, this is your chance to discover travel the world without ever leaving the capital this December.
