NightSwapping in Brittany

NightSwapping in Brittany

Often when people retire, they make the most of their newly found freedom by travelling and discovering new horizons. For Gisèle, who has been retired for a few months, it was a chance to explore Brittany, an area that had long since been on her bucket list.

How did you hear about NightSwapping?

I heard about NightSwapping through a report on TV and it seemed to meet my needs. I looked at their website and not only was the idea clearly explained, but it was also simple to navigate and use. I’d always hoped to spend a couple of weeks in Brittany, a dream that was frequently postponed. I used their online simulation tool and found hotels in the towns I wanted to visit and, because I didn’t have enough free nights, I bought nightly stays for 14 euros. It quickly became apparent that the cost of accommodation was 3 times cheaper. With my 3 free nights + 4 paid-for nights + the reservation fees of the 3 NightSwaps, it ended up being 4 times cheaper than a hotel.

But saving money wasn’t the only benefit. I had wonderful hosts who, like me, were retired and who took the time to welcome me into their home, all in telling me about their travels and region. .

Do you have any anecdotes you’d like to share?

My hosts were interested in my travel plans and gave me some great tips, including their favourite places, which I later photographed.

  • Jean Pierre and Gisèle suggested I watch the sun go down from a nearby spot, where you get an amazing view of the megaliths that are dotted along the coastline.
  • Jean Claude and Éliane took me on a 2-hour morning walk where I got wonderful views across Morlaix Bay.
  • Geneviève took me on a tour of Quimper by night. She knows her town like the back of her hand and I enjoyed not only the historic centre but also the magnificent sight of Quimper Cathedral at dusk.

They all treated me like a friend. We swapped phone numbers and they called me to hear my news and find out how my holiday went and I was also able to share my photos with them online.

It was an incredibly rewarding experience. I returned home delighted and I’m looking forward to my next holiday with NightSwapping.

Brittany is a stunning region; if I go back, I know where i’ll stay and I can highly recommend those who hosted me.

Is there anything you’d like to add about NightSwapping?

I was intrigued by this holiday accommodation concept and how it’s very well organised. The fee you pay includes insurance cover in case of damages caused or incurred.
The site requires a copy of your ID, so as to ensure that all parties are bona fide – very reassuring!
